How to let structure emerge from your notes

From Artem Kirsanov's video on his simple Zettelkasten setup in Obsidian.

Artem advocates for using links in the front matter instead of tags, and making use of ghost notes. He actually uses said links in the tags field, but this can cause some issues with the properties feature. Instead I have added a "links" property to my templates. Note: if using Obsidian you must surround your links with quotation marks or it won't work properly.

The idea is that whenever you make a new note you add at least one link in the front matter, to an existing note or ghost note, or an entirely new one, it doesn't matter. When you notice a number of notes clustered around a ghost node, turn it into a map of content.

I try to link the new map of content to a higher level subject or concept, and when I get to the highest level I want to use I link it to my home page.

This has the added advantage of making the graph view functional, rather than simply aesthetic, as it is where you will notice clusters of notes around a particular subject. There are other methods of identifying which ghost nodes to turn into MOCs, but the graph view is probably the most intuitive.
